O'Reilly Announces Updates to 2020 Conferences to Better Prepare Practitioners for the Future of Technology

September 26, 2019

Colocated conferences, a new event, and tighter integration with O’Reilly online learning build stronger, more cohesive conference program

NEW YORK—STRATA DATA CONFERENCE—O’Reilly, the premier source for insight-driven learning on technology and business, today announced its new 2020 conference schedule. To meet evolving technology and business demands, the company has made several changes to its historic conference lineup. This includes colocating several of its namesake events, launching a new event series called the Infrastructure & Ops Conference, and emphasizing learning paths as a foundational element of the event program to better suit the needs of attendees.

First, the O’Reilly Strata Data and Artificial Intelligence (AI) Conferences will be coming together in 2020 as colocated events. As data and AI are increasingly intertwined, bringing these two events closer together will allow for common exploration of emerging themes, enabling tech practitioners to experience both programs. Strata and AI will take place in New York, London, and San Jose in 2020.

O’Reilly will also be introducing its Infrastructure & Ops Conference, a new franchise focused on foundational technologies including cloud services, containers, microservices, and AI and operations. This new event will enable practitioners to manage legacy systems while integrating these new technologies with minimal interruption to their business. The O’Reilly Infrastructure & Ops Conference will take place in Santa Clara and Berlin in 2020.

Additionally, O’Reilly will introduce several new features to further the learning and skills building that takes place at its live events and beyond through O’Reilly online learning. First, O’Reilly will introduce learning paths, a set of sessions designed to provide instruction to attendees solving real-world problems in their business. Learning paths will also be available in O’Reilly online learning so attendees can dive deeper into these areas postconference—even the sessions they didn’t attend—and then share them with users within their organization. To help more people take advantage, O’Reilly will also offer a Learning pass to all events in 2020, a lower-cost option.

While O’Reilly is changing the format of several of its conferences to meet the needs of today’s technology practitioners, its Software Architecture and Open Source Software (OSCON) Conferences continue to thrive. The O’Reilly Software Architecture Conference will take place in New York, Santa Clara, and Berlin in 2020. OSCON will return to Portland in 2020. The inaugural O’Reilly TensorFlow World, presented with TensorFlow, will take place this October in Santa Clara and again in 2020.

“O’Reilly has long adopted a ‘next is now’ mentality to anticipate the technological advances that will shape the future,” said O’Reilly president Laura Baldwin. “In response, we’ve evolved our conference program to deliver the content and skills industry professionals need to adapt and spearhead the next generation of disruptive tech and tools to take this knowledge and apply it to their business today.”

O’Reilly events are an important part of keeping tech practitioners’ skills fresh, and the changes the company is making to its conferences and O’Reilly online learning in the coming year will help to achieve that. To make these benefits available to more professionals, O’Reilly will be introducing new conference pass types to lower the cost to attend in the new year.
